Armed and Famous episode 3
Our five brave celebrities continue their journeys as active police officers, with each one becoming more comfortable in their uniform and on the beat.
The night begins as Officer Jason “Wee Man” Acuña and his partner, Officer Scott O’Dell, get called to join a pursuit of a drunk driver. When they arrive on the scene, the young man is already out of his dented vehicle and is being given a field sobriety test.
In the vehicle is the driver’s 17 year old girlfriend, who is completely unaware of the severity of the situation. They soon discover the boyfriend not only appears to be on something, but also is toting a 9mm handgun in his pants, and a sizable bag of marijuana in the car.
“Wee Man” questions the young lady, who had no idea about the gun or drugs.
“Wee Man” and O’Dell talk tough to her, and make sure she knows to be a lot more careful in choosing whom she hangs out with.
They let her go in the custody of a neighbor, where she breaks down crying. As for her boyfriend, “Wee Man” tells him he’ll be spending a cold night in jail.
Across town, Officer Erik Estrada and his partner, Officer Jami Brown, are called in to join a burglary sting which has been set up by a tip from an informant.
They get briefed on the suspect, who has designs on stealing a piece of construction equipment. They learn he may be armed. Erik is given instruction from his partner on how to work with the K9 unit who’ve joined the sting just in case the perp runs. On the scene, Estrada and Brown are directed to move in and they catch the guy red handed.
Erik commands him to raise his hands and the thief seems to comply, but then makes a run for it. The police dog is released and it mercilessly snatches the poor sap in his jaws, but the guy makes an even bigger mistake when he assumes Officer Estrada’s life has been more charmed than his own. Estrada loses his cool and lets this guy know just how wrong he is. It turns out Estrada was born poor and worked his way out of a rough neighborhood. He hauls the perp off to jail.
Meanwhile, Officer Trish Stratus is called in to perform a pat-down on a female prostitute who’s less than compliant. Trish struggles with the handcuffs and administers a sloppy search of the woman, which deeply troubles her stoic partner, Officer Kyle Temple. Any good officer knows how to stay safe in potentially dangerous situations.
In an effort to drive home just how critical these pat-downs are, Temple takes Trish to a memorial for slain officers and points to a name: a friend and colleague of Temple’s who got killed in the line of duty when he missed a handgun while searching a perp.
It’s a chilling moment, punctuated by Temple’s teary-eyed account of handing the officer’s widow his flag at the funeral. Its significance is not lost on the rookie Stratus.
Next, Officer La Toya Jackson and her no-nonsense partner, Officer Amy Kesler, pull up to a house to find a spouse abuser with outstanding warrants for his arrest.
La Toya takes particular interest in busting this guy. She opens up about her own past with an abusive husband and talks forcefully to the abused woman about stopping this pattern in her relationship before it’s too late. When the husband tries to act as if he’s not really that bad of a guy, Kesler lays into him with some harsh criticism.
In another Muncie neighborhood, Officer Jack Osbourne and his partner, Officer Damon Stovall respond to a bloody domestic disturbance. They soon learn that the blood isn’t from a fight, but from the man’s attempt to bust back into his house after his girlfriend locked him out in a drunken rage.
Unfortunately for the man, who ironically works in a bail bonds business, he’s got a warrant from some unpaid fines and so the Officers take him in. Jack makes a crack about the fact that given the guy’s line of work, he’ll be out of jail in no time.
While on a break from patrol La Toya takes a moment to phone home to her mother, who’s worried about her daughter’s new gig as a crime-fighter. She fills Mrs.
Jackson in on how she’s handling her police work and even lets her partner say “hello.” Kesler lets Mrs. Jackson know how great a police officer La Toya has become, while Mrs. Jackson hangs up concerned that her daughter’s partner is a woman.
Later that night, Officers Erik Estrada and Officer Jami Brown show up at a bar to break up a fight and upon arrival they find an angry drunk man with a bloody head. The drunkard is looking for payback, or at least that’s how it seems. Officer Estrada tries to calm the victim down and find out what happened, but it proves to be tough task since nobody admits to seeing what happened. After some tense moments, the man admits that he fell in the bathroom. Problem solved. Case closed, or so they think. The drunk man then goes after another man in the parking lot and Estrada and Brown have to take him down.
Back for another night on the Muncie streets, we find “Wee Man” as he rolls up on a few teenagers who are participating in one his favorite pastimes: skateboarding. In fact when he’s not an officer of the law, “Wee Man” is a professional skateboarder.
A kid shows off a sweet move for Officer Acuña, who offers a celebratory high-five and stays true to the promise he made himself—to not bust the kids for skating and instead offers some words of encouragement over the police cruiser’s loudspeaker.
As the night progresses, Officers Osbourne & Stovall go looking for Rebecca, a young woman who’s wanted for felony-grade cocaine possession and violation of parole. They begin their search at Rebecca’s last known address, a house which, as Jack puts it, is “a weird, weird place.” Rebecca is nowhere to be found but the scene sparks memories for Jack who, upon leaving, confesses to partner about having spent many a night in places even worse than that back in his own drug-addled days. As they continue to hunt for Rebecca, Jack opens up to Stovall about how his family intervened and he was able to get sober and stay sober.
A tip leads the cops to a hotel, or as Jack says it was more like “a trashy hooker motel,” where they apprehend the young woman. The woman tearfully says goodbye to her boyfriend and then begs Officer Osbourne to help her get into a rehab. Jack is firm but supportive and dispenses informed advice about getting clean. But his duty remains and he must haul Rebecca in to jail for her crimes.
Officer Stratus and her partner get a call about a fight in progress. When they arrive on the scene it’s instantly clear that a belligerent young woman is the cause of the ruckus. This provides Trish a chance for redemption in her partner’s eyes by showing him that she can cuff and pat-down a suspect the proper way. Temple is pleased by her performance, but that quickly yields to shock when he gives the intoxicated woman a breathalyzer test and watches the numbers steadily climb to 3-times the legal limit.
Late into the night Officer Jackson gets a call instructing her and her partner to give a police escort to woman who is giving birth in a car. They speed down the street and arrive at the birthing center and help the woman and the newborn baby safely inside.
There’s a touching moment as La Toya hands the new father his baby for the first time and we see a softer side of Officer Kesler, who gets a bit choked up by the whole experience.
Another night ends at the Sunrise Diner and our celebs toast to La Toya and the newest Munsonian that La Toya helped usher into the world. The next day at the station La Toya gets a visit from the new mother. All is well with her and the baby and they are thankful for the help from Officer Jackson.
The citizens of Muncie are safer and smiling thanks to the ARMED & FAMOUS.
